Planned Parenthood under Attack!

This came to me by email though I had to share with those who check in with my podcast. I'll try and get an interview though time now is of the essence and if you by chance read this please take action.
Thank you,
Donna

Dear Reader,

Right now, this minute, Planned Parenthood is under attack and they need your help immediately. An ouslaught of protesters at the new Planned Parenthood clinic in Aurora, Illinois, are doing everything in their
power to keep the doors shut to women who need access to reproductive
health care. Please take the time to express your opinion and have a
ribbon tied at the clinic to show your support in the fight to keep
health care available - not only in Aurora, but throughout our nation.

URGENT: Planned Parenthood under attack

Dear Friend,

Planned Parenthood is under attack.

Ground zero in the fight for women's access to reproductive health care
has landed in a town in the middle of America.

Aurora, Illinois.

Aurora's not really a town. It's a fast growing city outside Chicago
where Planned Parenthood just built a large clinic. Just a few weeks
ago, the usual suspects in the anti-choice fringe showed up in droves -
and by droves, I mean more people are protesting this clinic than we've
seen in decades.

What's worse? They've managed to keep our clinic doors closed. Last
week, a U.S. district court judge denied our request to open the clinic.

We need your help. Today. Right now. We must demonstrate that Planned
Parenthood and the women we serve have enormous support not only in
Illinois, but everywhere. From wherever you live, and with whatever time
you have - you can help. Click here:
http://www.alternet.org/ppfa-aurora

You see, what's happening in Aurora isn't an isolated incident. What's
happening in Aurora today is what's happening in America. It's not a war
on a clinic. It's a war on women's access to reproductive health care -
in Aurora, and across our country.

Every day that our clinic remains closed further encourages the
anti-choice extremists' harassment and intimidation of patients and
staff here in Aurora and at clinics across the country. And every day
our health center is not open, more women go without pap tests, birth
control supplies and breast exams. That is a real shame for a region,
and a country, in the middle of a catastrophic health care crisis.

The situation in Aurora is the most challenging we've faced in a long
time, to be sure. But Planned Parenthood has been fighting this battle
for 90 years, and we're not going to stop now. We'll be back in court as
soon as possible to present additional facts, and we WILL open this
clinic.

Here's how you can help:

:: Please take action. Planned Parenthood, our clinic staff, and the
women of Aurora need all the visible support we can get. Your action
today will add a ribbon of support at the clinic - we're at over 30,000
ribbons and counting! Send your ribbon signifying your support of the
Aurora clinic.
http://www.alternet.org/ppfa-aurora

:: Tell your friends! Send them this link:
http://www.alternet.org/ppfa-aurora

Planned Parenthood is showing up for this fight. I hope you will, too.
Thank you.

Sincerely,

Cecile Richards
President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America

P.S. The outpouring of help from people like you is keeping us going.

Curing our sick health care system: A solution to America's health care crisis by Robert Gumbiner, MD

This is one doctor who knows what he is talking about. Books are being sold on Amazon. com. Love to hear what you think!
Donna

SUMMARY OF BOOK
The basic health care system in the United States is not working and must be fixed. Today, the providers of care (physicians) have no motivation to control costs. The users of the service (patients) have little real choice in level of service, price, or quality. Those who pay for the service (the government and insurance companies) have minimal control over the utilization and price of services.
Forty-five million Americans have no health care coverage while millions more are under-insured due to high deductibles and co-payments or a lack of access to services. Yet what we are paying in health care costs, right now, is enough to provide health care coverage to all Americans if we eliminate waste and fraud through a well-designed health care delivery system that changes the motivation for providers and makes them fiscally responsible, while marginalizing the established fee-for-service system.
Robert Gumbiner, M.D., with more than forty years experience as a practicing physician and the founder of one of the largest managed care companies in the United States, lays out a startling, yet practical, plan for solving the health care crisis facing the United States. He clearly demonstrates that removing the middle man (insurance companies) will reduce health care costs by as much as fifty percent, allowing the United States to support a single-payer system that provides available, accessible and affordable coverage for everyone, including medical, dental, optometry, pharmaceuticals, hospitalization and preventive care. The cost of this comprehensive system – funded through a simple payroll deduction (employees) and contribution (employers) – would be instead of not in addition to what we now spend.
Key to this plan is the re-education and reorganization of health care providers. We need to restructure the medical education system, as well as the recruitment of health care providers, and eliminate the profit motive that currently drives health care delivery. This book offers practical and innovative suggestions: make providers responsible for cost and utilization through organized provider systems (supported by government reinsurance programs and management training); eliminate the fee-for-service mentality by putting doctors, like other professionals, on salary; give patients the option of choosing their organized provider system and/or paying for a second tier of more flexible coverage if so desired; open medical schools to everyone with the talent and desire to pursue a career in health care, regardless of income, which will result in a healthy supply of physicians throughout the country.
Drawing on his extensive experience in this country, as well as his years studying health care systems around the world, Robert Gumbiner debunks the myths held out by opponents to national universal health care. He shows, step-by-step, how we arrived at our current, dysfunctional system that leaves millions of people without adequate health care coverage. He argues, persuasively, that we have been misled by special interests into thinking a health care system funded through the government and managed for effective utilization will eliminate choice and never work. Rather, as demonstrated in this book, such a system – if well designed and managed – is the only practical solution to the health care crisis in the United States.

New Fibroid Bill-Need letters to your representatives

Advocating For Research & More
Uterine Fibroids-- Getting Involved

Three in every four American women suffer from uterine fibroids. African American women are affected in even greater numbers. Very little is known about fibroids and treatment options are limited.

There are two very prominent advocates for this particular women’s health issue on Capitol Hill. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD) recently re- introduced legislation in the United States Senate that would increase funding for research and education on uterine fibroids. Identical legislation was re- introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH).

Senator Mikulski introduced the Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act in June 2005 with the hope that new and better treatments or possibly a cure for uterine fibroids are found. Senator Mikulski has been on the front line fighting for women’s issues for many, many years. She wants to ensure that women get the health treatment they need and deserve.

This legislation will authorize $30 million in federal funding each year for five years, and would be used to research the cause of uterine fibroids, determine why African American women are affected in such higher numbers, and find ways to prevent and treat fibroids. In addition, a portion of the funding would be allocated to create an educational program for doctors and their patients. The mission of the educational program would be to provide information so doctors and patients are better informed when making health-related decisions.

Please e-mail or send a letter by regular mail to your US Senator and Congressional Representative asking that they support S 1289 and HR 3034 The Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act of 2005. Go to http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm for contact information on your senator and www.house.gov/writerep for contact information on your representative.

Thank you

Thank you
